What I know to be true

Given current world events, writing this post presented quite a dilemma. Right now, across the ocean, mommies are sobbing over the horrible deaths of their babies. Wives, forced to watch the barbaric deaths of their husbands, continue to face unbelievable terror and abuse. Families are living with incoming missiles as a part of their daily life. Watching the nightly news shows violent crimes in my own country and city that are happening way too close.

In the meantime, life seems to go on with the mundane in contrast to these unimaginable situations. How can I write about longing for beautiful fall foliage, white fluffy clouds, or what I should cook for dinner when my heart is in such turmoil? Okay, so maybe I would not have written about those specific topics. However, could I really write about everyday things and offer any encouragement?

In the process of preparing this post, God gently rebuked me. I needed to take my mind off of circumstances and focus on His truth. I do not have to come up with the right words or answers to every problem. I just need to remember where to turn to find solace.

My soul melts away for sorrow; strengthen me according to your word!” (ESV, Ps. 119:28)

Despite the dark and sinister crimes described on the nightly news, God has not departed.

Where shall I go from your Spirit? Or where shall I flee from your presence? If I ascend to heaven, you are there!” (Ps. 139:7-8)

No matter how horrific the actions of others are, God is still in control.

who rules by his might forever, whose eyes keep watch on the nations-let not the rebellious exalt themselves. Selah” (Ps. 66:7)

On the day I called, you answered me; my strength of soul you increased.” (Ps. 138:3)

Regardless of my fear that the world has turned upside down and all is hopeless, God’s word offers hope.

I wait for the LORD, my soul waits, and in his word I hope;” (Ps. 130:5)

Be strong, and let your heart take courage, all you who wait for the LORD!” (Ps. 31:24)

Even though some want to rewrite history and thumb their noses at the truth, God’s word remains true.

For the LORD is good; his steadfast love endures forever, and his faithfulness to all generations.” (Ps. 100:5)

Despite those who try to distort archaeological and scientific facts, God’s word tells us the truth.

The heavens are yours; the earth also is yours; the world and all that is in it, you have founded them.” (Ps. 89:11)

I take comfort in God’s word and remember what I know to be true.

I will remember the deeds of the LORD; yes, I will remember your wonders of old. I will ponder all your work, and meditate on your mighty deeds.” (Ps. 77:11-12)

He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say to the LORD, “My refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.'” (Ps. 91:1-2)
