A Place Called Simplicity, The Quiet Beauty of Simple Living by Claire Cloninger
As I was unpacking last spring, this book caught my attention. What better time to read about living simply than when you are going through boxes that have been in storage for years!
Ms. Cloninger shared how God led her and her husband to downsize and make their small vacation cabin their sole home after their children were grown. She noted that only after rest and quiet in the Lord could changes in simplicity be made with lasting effects.
Isaiah 30:15 For thus says the Lord GOD, the Holy One of Israel: “In returning and rest you shall be saved; In quietness and confidence shall be your strength.” …
One of my favorite quotes from Claire in this book:
Pg. 179, “The Bottom Holds”, “…it has only been in real times of trouble or stress or grief that I have been pressed enough really to “let go and let God.” It has only been when I knew my back was against the wall and I simply couldn’t make it on my own that I have released my grip and felt Him catch me. But every time I’ve done that, he has been right there.”
I can relate.
Mar 6:31 And He said to them, “Come aside by yourselves to a deserted place and rest a while.” For there were many coming and going, and they did not even have time to eat.
